The Cicero Police Department believes its crime prevention and precision policing efforts are only as strong its relationship with the community, and recognizes that a commitment to community policing is the foundation upon which community trust is built.
Community Policing emphasizes the relationship between the police officer and community member whom we are sworn to serve, and that all members of the public shall be treated with respect at all times and rendered professional service. These beliefs are codified in the Mission Statement of the Department and serve as guiding principles for our members.
Relationships are built over time, and every member of the Department is trained to treat every public contact as an opportunity for positive engagement, even in enforcement situations. To facilitate and encourage positive police contacts outside enforcement situations, the Department maintains over multiple outreach programs and initiatives to bring police officers and community members together.
Many of these programs are designed for youth and young adults to encourage positive first experiences, and is serves to benefit both the community members and the police officer.
